One of the ways we travel as much as we do is by making our travel kitty go as far as it can. That means having great travel resources so that we can spend less and get more. All of the resources on this page are services and products we use to find the best deals. Using these resources won’t cost you anything, but allow us to earn a small commission so that we can continue creating great content.
Hotels Combined is the first site we turn to when booking hotels. It is a comparison travel website that searches all of the largest booking sites and returns the best prices, so you know you are getting the best deal.
We have been using Trip Adviser for over a decade to research hotels, restaurants and tours and read reviews from real travellers. We still consult Trip Advisor reviews and forums for every trip, but we are also fans of their new feature that allows you to book accommodation. They often have great deals on certain properties and destinations.
Booking.com is the largest booking website offering the most destinations and properties. It is very easy to use, with good filters to find family-friendly accommodation.
We use Airbnb regularly when we travel because we can often find better options for our family of 5. We also like having a kitchen to prepare meals and being in a local neighborhood. If you have never used Airbnb before, use this link to save $30 USD off your first reservation.
No matter where we are travelling, we always travel with comprehensive travel insurance. We use and recommend World Nomads, because they are used to working with adventurous travellers and provide coverage in over 130 countries. Luckily we have only ever had two serious medical incidents abroad, but we sleep better knowing we have good insurance. You can read more about our travel insurance recommendations for adventurous families here.
Expedia is where I book most of our flights, but I also use it regularly for hotels and rental cars. There is peace of mind in dealing with such an established company that was a pioneer in the industry. Their customer service is top notch. I have booked the wrong flights before (more than once) and they always promptly refunded me, even though it was my error.
Klook is our favourite tool for booking tours and attraction tickets. They offer the best prices on Asian attractions and tickets. If you are looking for cheap tickets on Sentosa attractions in Singapore or theme park tickets in Japan, Klook will save you money!
Get Your Guide is the world’s largest online platform for tours and activities. They offer a huge range of tours and activities, many focused on families. We did an amazing tour of Rome and a super food tour in Athens, both of which are available on GYG.
Viator is another great place to find interesting tours and attractions worldwide. You can go rafting in the Canadian Rockies or bike ride around the Australian Outback’s Uluru, there are endless possibilities.
Intrepid Travel offers small-group adventurous tours, including a number of specially-designed family tours. These tours take the organization out of your hands and are perfect for discovering new destinations.
Amazon has everything a traveller could ever want. We love the huge range of products and brands they carry from essential travel electronics to performance clothes to travel guides. View the 5 Lost Together Amazon store for our most essential travel gear recommendations.
